Glassware: More Important Than You Think

February 7, 2018 by Lauren Bedford 2 Comments

Do you really need a whole bar-full of different types of glassware for all your different drinks?

I’m sure you’ve heard about those people who drink different styles of beers out of different glasses. “How crazy!!”, you think. There is just no way that a beer tastes any different out of that glass as it does out of this glass.

Well, maybe those crazy people are onto something.

You see, different drink glasses are made for different reasons. Wine glasses have stems so that the heat from your hands does not alter the temperature of the wine you are drinking. Taller “Collins” glasses and “Low-Ball Cocktail” glasses are used for cocktails that need room for ice and for the cocktail itself. Champagne flutes are designed in such a way that the glass almost traps the bubbles in the champagne, keeping it effervescent and ‘bubbly’ for longer than a normal wine glass would.

If your restaurant has a bar, it is important to be educated on the uses of different drink glasses and why exactly they matter. Once you learn all about the glasses, you’re going to need to purchase them! You only want the best drinking experience for your guests and bar patrons, right?

Allow us to help: you can shop all of the glasses below on our website, through the links we will provide under each photo!

The Importance of a Proper Glassware for Wine by Wine Folly

This article from Wine Folly really goes in-depth into all the different styles of wine and wine glasses — it even discusses the different types of beer glasses that look similar to wine glasses and what they are used for. It breaks the types down by red wine, white wine, and even specialty wines. And there are even subcategories of each of those categories! Definitely give this article a read if you in the market for some new wine glasses, then head over to our site to find the perfect ones.

Cocktails:

Cocktail 101: Glassware Basics by Serious Eats

For an educational article about the different types of glassware you should use for different cocktails, look no further than this article by Serious Eats. Thanks for helping me learn more about glassware. I had no idea that there are reasons why different drink glasses are used. Perhaps it could be good to consider the theme of your restaurant or bar to help determine what kind of drinks and glassware would be necessary.
